Timeline To Surgery

*This timeline is generalized and may vary for each patient.

  • This is when you come to the office and meet with Dr. Bruce to discuss your weight loss goals and determine a plan.

  • At this stage, you will be getting testing and evaluations done.

Some of the tests and evaluations may include:

    Nutrition evaluation

Sleep Study/CPAP Compliance- which can be done at home or at a sleep center.

    Psychology evaluation

EKG- this is a simple procedure to measure the electrical activity of the heart.

    Chest Xray

    Ultrasound

EGD- this is a simple procedure to examine your upper GI tract.

    Lab work

  • PSWL stands for Physician Supervised Weight Loss. Some insurances require that a patient have weekly or monthly documented visits with their provider prior to surgery.

  • At this stage all information from testing and evaluations is sent to your insurance company for authorization.

  • At this visit, we schedule your surgery! Dr. Bruce will also review your test results with you, and provide you with preoperative instructions, and prescriptions for after surgery. Dr. Bruce prefers that this visit is in the office so you can pick up your preoperative supplies.

  • After you receive your date you will begin preparing for surgery. This includes a pre-op high protein ketogenic diet for 1-4 weeks and picking up your prescriptions for post-op.

  • It is your surgery day! Congratulations! Please remember, this is the starting point and not the finish line.
